I am supporting Hillary Clinton for president because of her coolness under fire, her exemplary agility in dodging the daily slings and arrows from a hostile press, and her staunch loyalty to a husband who has embarrassed her in so many ways. Peggy Noonan,writing in WSJ online recently,notes that the best commentary on the Bosnia story came from a poster called GI Joe who wrote in to a news blog:
"Actually Mrs. Clinton was too modest. I was there and saw it all. When Mrs. Clinton got off the plane the tarmac came under mortar and machine gun fire. I was blown off my tank and exposed to enemy fire. Mrs. Clinton without regard to her own safety dragged me to safety, jumped on the tank and opened fire, killing 50 of the enemy." Soon a suicide bomber appeared, but Mrs. Clinton stopped the guards from opening fire. "She talked to the man in his own language and got him [to] surrender. She found that he had suffered terribly as a result of policies of George Bush. She defused the bomb vest herself." Then she turned to his wounds. "She stopped my bleeding and saved my life. Chelsea donated the blood."

Bizarre and gory Easter rituals, including crucifixion and flagellation, are reported from the Northern Philippines where devout Roman Catholics mark Good Friday with annual displays of Christian martyrdom. The rituals are condoned by church officials but are tolerated by local authorities who monitor the affair to ensure no one dies from the self flagellation or crucifixion. According to The Daily Mail (U.K.) a party atmosphere was evident at one location:
Thousands watched the spectacle in Cutud, which has grown from a village production started in 1962 to a media and tourist attraction copied in other parts of the country.
For hours before the crucifixions lines of men, hooded and half naked, flayed their backs with bamboo whips and paddles tipped with broken glass. Blood splattered over the road.
The atmosphere was festive, with hawkers selling beer, ice-cream and souvenir whips. VIPs watched from a specially elevated "viewing platform".
In the following clip (5:39) from today's Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace we see our Senator Dodd, a Barack Obama supporter, visibly annoyed at having to answer questions about the relationship between Sen. Obama and his former pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He attempts to end the discussion by saying Obama has rejected his pastor's statements and that's that. Wallace points out that Obama only rejected Wright's inflammatory statements this week after they received widespread coverage in the media including ABC's Brian Ross. Dodd counters with words to the effect that Obama didn't know about it until it surfaced in the press. Wallace says Obama knew about it year ago when he commenced his campaign and dis invited the reverend from officiating at the kickoff event. All Dodd could do was to repeat we need to get to the "real issues", as though the Obama-Wright affair was not one.

Yesterday I posted the video of Fox's Major Owens interviewing Barack Obama about his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Today I am posting 2 videos consisting of an interview conducted by CNN's Anderson Cooper covering pretty much the same ground. And, Obama gives pretty much the same answers as in the previous interview and does not make a very convincing case for his professed ignorance of goings on at the Trinity United Church of Christ. For example, he says that the recently surfaced statements of Wright do not reflect his views and beliefs and that they are also not the views of the congregation. This statement is flatly contradicted by the video evidence. We clearly see the worshipers standing and clapping, jumping up and down, high fiving, whooping and hollering throughout the Wright rants. One can make allowances for the exuberance commonly expressed at Black religious events. Here the enthusiasm, however, is not for their Saviour or Lord but for the truly bizarre and outrageously false claims emanating from the pulpit. Part I (07:34)

But wait, there's much more. the next video (08:27) is from the 3/14 Hannity and Colmes Show on Fox featuring more of Dr. Wright's rantings which program guest Tanya Acker, a Democratic strategist labels "crazy". Sean Hannity asserts "this is going to end his (Obama's) presidential run...or any chance he has to win..." Hannity further outlines the facts that at Obama's formal announcement as a presidential candidate in Feb '07 he had to dis invite the pastor because he knew full well what the guy had said in the past. He also had to have known of Wright's visit to Khaddffi in Libya in the company of Minister Farakhan, and Trinity United's bestowal of a "Lifetime Achievement Award" on Farakhan. Additionally Obama and family gave tens of thousands of dollars to Trinity United.

ABC News' Brian Ross, which was the only main stream news source to delve into the racist, America hating sermons delivered from the pulpit by the Rev Jeremiah Wright, has just announced (3/14/08 9:12 PM) that Wright has been removed from the Obama campaign spiritual advisory committee.
Citing the need for a ".... sabbatical.... that it was important for him to step out of the spotlight in this situation."Obama said that he did not know the extent of Wright's controversial comments until recently. He confirmed that he was not in the church when Wright made the comments that were reported this week.
He had to have been in the church when at least some of the minister's other hateful sermons were preached. Obama sought to further distance himself from the "God Damn America" sermon saying:
I wasn't in church during the time that these statements were made," Obama said. "I did not hear such incendiary language myself, personally. Either in conversations with him or when I was in the pew, he always preached the social gospel."
Of course the larger question is, given the scores of inflammatory sermons by Rev Wright, which ones does he agree with.
The video below is by Jane Fisler Hoffman who says she is a minister of the United Church of Christ and attends Barack Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago which until last month was lead by the controversial minister Jeremiah Wright. This video and another similar video appear both on the church website and on one of Obama's campaign web sites. The video attempts to place Trinity United in the mainstream of American Christian practice. I believe that Trinity United is far from the mainstream of even the left wing national United Church of Christ but totally out of bounds in respect to most Christian congregations in this nation. This blog posting is an attempt to bring some clarity to the controversy involving candidate Obama and his recently retired pastor. It is known that the Barack Obama family has belonged to the Trinity United church of Christ for some 20 years. The Rev. Wright married the couple, baptized their children, and blessed their new home.
Following are several versions of the Black Values System that have appeared on the website of Trinity United church of Christ. Barack Obama needs to be asked if these precepts inform his philosophical underpinnings. If as a member of Trinity United he subscribes to these principles then one is entitled to wonder how he can be a President of all the people of the United States. Mitt Romney's religious beliefs were probed ad naseum by the press until he had finally to make a speech solely to explain his faith.
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. THE BLACK VALUE SYSTEM
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System, written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee, chaired by the late Vallmer Jordan in 1981.
Dr. Manford Byrd, our brother in Christ, withstood the ravage of being denied his earned ascension to the number one position in the Chicago School System. His dedication to the pursuit of excellence, despite systematic denials, has inspired the congregation of Trinity United Church of Christ. Prayerfully, we have called upon the wisdom of all past generations of suffering Blacks for guidance in fashioning an instrument of Black self-determination, the Black Value System.
Beginning in 1982, an annual Black Value System – Educational Scholarship in the name of Dr. Byrd was instituted. The first recipient of the Dr. Manford Byrd Award, which is given annually to the man or woman who best exemplifies the Black Value System, was our brother, Dr. Manford Byrd.
These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They consist of the following concepts:
1. Commitment to God. “The God of our weary years” will give us the strength to give up prayerful passivism and become Black Christian Activists, soldiers for Black freedom and the dignity of all humankind.
2. Commitment to the Black Community. The highest level of achievement for any Black person must be a contribution of strength and continuity of the Black Community. 3. Commitment to the Black Family. The Black family circle must generate strength, stability and love, despite the uncertainty of externals, because these characteristics are required if the developing person is to withstand warping by our racist competitive society.
Those Blacks who are blessed with membership in a strong family unit must reach out and expand that blessing to the less fortunate.
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education. We must forswear anti-intellectualism. Continued survival demands that each Black person be developed to the utmost of his/her mental potential despite the inadequacies of the formal education process. “Real education” fosters understanding of ourselves as well as every aspect of our environment. Also, it develops within us the ability to fashion concepts and tools for better utilization of our resources, and more effective solutions to our problems. Since the majority of Blacks have been denied such learning, Black Education must include elements that produce high school graduates with marketable skills, a trade or qualifications for apprenticeships, or proper preparation for college.
Basic education for all Blacks should include Mathematics, Science, Logic, General Semantics, Participative Politics, Economics and Finance, and the Care and Nurture of Black minds.
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence. To the extent that we individually reach for, even strain for excellence, we increase, geometrically, the value and resourcefulness of the Black Community. We must recognize the relativity of one’s best; this year’s best can be bettered next year. Such is the language of growth and development. We must seek to excel in every endeavor. 6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic. “It is becoming harder to find qualified people to work in Chicago.” Whether this is true or not, it represents one of the many reasons given by businesses and industries for deserting the Chicago area. We must realize that a location with good facilities, adequate transportation and a reputation for producing skilled workers will attract industry. We are in competition with other cities, states and nations for jobs. High productivity must be a goal of the Black workforce. 7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect. To accomplish anything worthwhile requires self-discipline. We must be a community of self-disciplined persons if we are to actualize and utilize our own human resources, instead of perpetually submitting to exploitation by others. Self-discipline, coupled with a respect for self, will enable each of us to be an instrument of Black Progress and a model for Black Youth. 8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness.” Classic methodology on control of captives teaches that captors must be able to identify the “talented tenth” of those subjugated, especially those who show promise of providing the kind of leadership that might threaten the captor’s control.
Those so identified are separated from the rest of the people by:
1. Killing them off directly, and/or fostering a social system that encourages them to kill off one another. 2. Placing them in concentration camps, and/or structuring an economic environment that induces captive youth to fill the jails and prisons. 3. Seducing them into a socioeconomic class system which, while training them to earn more dollars, hypnotizes them into believing they are better than others and teaches them to think in terms of “we” and “they” instead of “us.” 4. So, while it is permissible to chase “middleclassness” with all our might, we must avoid the third separation method – the psychological entrapment of Black “middleclassness.” If we avoid this snare, we will also diminish our “voluntary” contributions to methods A and B. And more importantly, Black people no longer will be deprived of their birthright: the leadership, resourcefulness and example of their own talented persons.
9. Pledge to Make the Fruits of All Developing and Acquired Skills Available to the Black Community.
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions.
11. Pledge Allegiance to All Black Leadership Who Espouse and Embrace the Black Value System.
12. Personal Commitment to Embracement of the Black Value System. To measure the worth and validity of all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black Community and the Advancement of Black People towards freedom

The Rev. Jeremiah H. Wright may have stepped down from the pulpit but he cannot be allowed out of public scrutiny; his race baiting, anti-semitic "sermons" need to be addressed in the context of the Barack Obama candidacy. The Barack Obama family's 20 year relationship with this church and Pastor Wright raises many questions. First of all we need to know why a candidate for U.S. President would feel comfortable in a church whose preacher was an obvious racist, a segregationist, and an America hater. Next, since the press made such a big deal about Mitt Romney's Morman faith even to the point of asking him if his primary loyalty would be to the LDS Church elders or to the U.S. constitution, it would seem fair to ask of Barack Obama a similar question; i.e, would a President Obama look for guidance from, and pledge allegiance to, the precepts of his "black values" church or to the U.S. Constitution?
Okay, let's set the scene: One Roger von Bergendorff has taken a suite at a Las Vegas hotel. He has two cats, a dog, firearms, anarchist literature, deadly ricin and its precursor, castor beans. Sounds innocent enough, right? That's what the authorities are saying at any rate:

What's in a name? Are we now not allowed to use BHO's full name? Mark Levin came up with a couple of humorous alternatives yesterday: Barack Milhouse Obama and Barack Not-That-Hussein Obama! We freely speak of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK), Richard Milhous Nixon (RMN), William Jefferson Clinton (WJC) but we can't use Barack Hussein Obama (BHO); don't even try to go with BO. Remember Joe Biden said he's clean,Oh, and don't forget either;we can't call BHO liberal he doesn't like that. Fact is, BHO is beyond liberal with his collectivist ideology.
Senator Clinton's campaign responded to the controversy over the photo below of Barack Obama in Kenya:
....there are photos of her from around the world wearing "the costume of the country" she was visiting.
"Every time I traveled to foreign countries, I wore the costume of the country. You can find dozen of pictures of me in different parts of the world," said Clinton. "You can find me wearing African outfits, Latin American outfits, Asian outfits, when you travel to foreign countries, it’s a sign of respect. What does that have to do with anything?"

Perennial spoiler Ralph Nader has announced he intends to enter this year's presidential contest according to the Associated Press. Nader is scheduled on the "meet the Press" program this morning. According to The Wall Street Journal:
Barack Obama said today during a visit at the Ohio State University Medical Center that he wasn’t terribly concerned about the prospect of a Nader campaign. “I think the job of the Democratic Party is to be so compelling that a few percentage [points] of the vote going to another candidate is not going to make any difference.”
It was, however, those few percentage points of the vote which gave "W" his margin of victory in Florida in 2004. Nader is hated by many Democrats for that reason and is bound to incur their wrath this time around as well. It wasn't all that long ago when another spoiler named Ross Perot had handed the victory to Bill Clinton in 1992. In that race Perot received 18.9% of the vote compared to Clinton's 43%.The indefatigable Nader will be 74 in a few days.
The Green Party folks have a draft Nader movement in place and have been especially excited by a Nader candidacy since John Edwards left the race in January. This has got to auger well for the Republicans.

All apparently were asked about their presidential preferences and the answers do not auger well for our nation.
I kinda like Coco though, she nominated herself and won. She says:

Feeling extremely sexy, she nominated herself because, she says, "I'm also a pick-up artist for burlesque shows, a fetish performer, and a model. I think I'm the only glass blower who has done naked sushi.....What can I say? I blow for money. And I'm awesome at it."

CHICAGO (AP) - Barack Obama sneaked down to North Carolina Sunday and met with former rival John Edwards, who has yet to make an endorsement in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Officials at North Carolina television station WTVD said they have video taken from a helicopter of Obama leaving Edwards' home in Chapel Hill. A producer said the station was "tipped off" about the meeting, but said the source was confidential.
The Obama campaign confirmed the meeting. Although reporters normally travel everywhere with Obama, he left them behind to fly down in secret from his hometown.
Of course this leads to much speculation about the Edwards candidate endorsement:
The couple has been impressed with Clinton, who has more effectively courted them since the 2004 vice presidential nominee dropped out, people who talk to the Edwardses say. Obama has been less attentive, they say, and some of those close to the Edwardses have been annoyed that Obama has continued to ridicule him for once saying his biggest weakness is that he has a powerful response to seeing pain in others.
The campaign is getting interesting, one might even say it's heating up drastically (see the Bill Clinton photo below where he confronts an Obama supporter in Canton OH)
Meanwhile "W" is greeted with great fanfare and adulation during his trip to Africa.Reutors reports:
Beaming repeatedly during a press conference with Kikwete, (Bush) made a point of referring to his welcome on the streets, which he described as "very moving".
Bush opened his remarks by saying "Vipi Mambo!" before turning to U.S. journalists and adding: "For the uneducated, that's Swahili for 'Howdy Y'all'" --a typical Texas greeting.
Kikwete told Bush: "The outpouring of warmth and affection from the people of Tanzania that you have witnessed since your arrival is a genuine reflection of what we feel towards you and towards the American people."....
In a reference to Bush's domestic problems, Kikwete added: "Different people may have different views about you and your administration and your legacy.
Bush was greeted on his arrival in Tanzania by women sporting "Bush Bras"!

Forget issues. He's the man who wraps up JFK, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mandela - for blacks and whites, particularly women and children - and the young who can vote. Mob hysteria - mob psychology - could win the November ballot for Barack Obama. There is no doubt about it. It can sweep across the nation, grow and grow and grow, until talking about the nation's pressing matters will fly out the window....he has audiences who are thirsting for nothing but flimflam; otherwise, Obama's groupies would not wow him as they do. They howl. They weep. The clutch. After all, they're not constituents. They're groupies caught up in Obamamania....He mesmerizes his listeners as a drug dealer wraps up a sale. Now that's truly scary. It's all smoke and mirrors, folks. It's all senior high school president oratory in hopes of winning the election down the hall. That's it. He's got the music entree, then there's the tilt to the head, the cadence in his speech, the compassion in his face, the slick lean body, the shiny white teeth, the sympathy in his voice and the assurance in his cliches. But all he's got is a bag of tricks - snappy words like "Change" and "Unite." That's it. He's a politico magician with a bag of tricks.

Obama is “The Man” women are fainting in the crowd just like when Sinatra was on stage. Today in New Hampshire a woman justfainted and last month at an Opra rally they were dropping like Flies. Edwards also has them falling.
Jim Vicevich, our Connecticut WTIC morning radio conservative talk host, notes the eerie similarity of female fainting episodes at Obama rallies. James Taranto's "The Best of the Web Today" picks up this theme in a posting today. "James Vicevich, a Connecticut radio talk show host, takes note of yet another creepy element of the Obama campaign.
It happened here in Hartford .... Throughout the speech, Obama kept a close eye on the crowd. Upon hearing a small group begin chanting “We can’t wait” — a phrase Obama had just used — he pointed them out with an outstretched arm, and within seconds the entire arena was chanting the phrase in unison. And when a woman appeared to faint in the standing-only VIP section in front of the podium, Obama paused his speech for over a minute as he directed the crowd to make way for an EMT team and tossed a bottle of water from the stage. Update: Coincidence?: Our morning show host Ray Dunaway pointed this out after sifting through DU. A little research and this is what I came up with. Coincidence? The Obama version of "crying"? Or am I just cynical (hard not to be these days)? There seems to be a trend at Obama rallies ... women fainting. And interestingly enough the Senator responds the same way every time, almost as if ... naah, couldn't be.
The far left group Code Pink uses staged fainting as part of their bag of tricks.
Code Pink women activists are vehemently anti-war and claim to be the mothers, wives and daughters of the troops fighting in Iraq. Favorite tactics from the Code Pink bag of tricks include street theatrics, hunger strikes and staged fainting in Capitol Hill offices, and protests at campaign stops across the country -- basically anything that gains media attention. They point to men as the cause of war and women as the solution. Their stated purpose is to end the “occupation in Iraq,” although their goals go beyond that. Their leadership and mission are rooted more in communist ideals than in moral objection to unjust war.
A hunger-striking Code Pink member who fainted in the office of Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) late last month will return to the Hart Senate Office Building Tuesday to resume her protest against Lieberman.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting today that yesterday (Sunday Feb 10) was Reverend Jeremiah H. Wright's last day in the pulpit of the city's Trinity United Church of Christ.Rev. Wright was Barack Obama's spiritual mentor and Wright's sermon "The Audacity of Hope" inspired Obama's breakthrough 2006 speech and highly acclaimed book of the same title. The strangest thing about EMI’s former record factory in Hayes, west London, is not that it has been lying derelict for years, but that in a ramshackle outbuilding once occupied by the packing and shipping department, 11 of the 120 record presses that immortalised the music of groups such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd are again in full production, turning out singles and LPs.....
Thus begins a really interesting article in the Financial Times (U.K.) about the continued life, and new production, of vinyl records amidst the proliferation of all sorts of new formats (mostly inferior) and the decline of the CD. Even the introduction of new HiFi formats such as "lossless MP3" and "Super Audio CD" have not killed vinyl which, for a variety of reasons explained in the article, maintains a significant niche presence in the marketplace. But if it were only old fuddy-duddies still buying LPs, records would soon be heading the same way as the phonograph cylinder. In fact, younger music fans are helping keep the format alive. After CDs came along, dance music DJs did their bit, staying loyal to the 12in single and influencing fans to buy them. More recently, it has suddenly become fashionable among pop artists to release singles on 7in vinyl as well as in digital formats, often in limited editions that are seen as collectors’ items. The joke is, many of these singles are bought by youngsters who do not even own a turntable, but increasingly the records come with a coupon entitling the owner to a download of the same music....
